Confessions of a Teenage Fraudster tells the story of one man – Elliot Castro – and his five-year global adventure, bought and paid for by other people’s money – a total estimated to be over £2.5 million. Although the story of an individual, it offers insight into how our relationship with money and credit, as well as our desires for wealth and the finer things in life, have evolved dramatically and, at times, dangerously.

The films reveals how Elliot committed his crimes and examines issues around identity, and persona, as well as the power of money and of lying. It asks a question he himself has often pondered – who is Elliot Castro?

The series features testimony from Elliot, officers and investigators who pursued him across the world, along with others who have encountered him throughout life. That testimony is complimented by rich swathes of archive and visual effects, used creatively to tell and elevate the story, and dramatic reconstructions highlighting key moments.
